German Word Order Rule — Verb Always in Position 2

The verb-second (V2) rule is the foundation of German sentence structure: no matter what word or phrase comes first, the conjugated verb always occupies the second position. "Ich esse heute Apfel" vs "Heute esse ich Apfel" vs "Einen Apfel esse ich heute." The verb stays in slot 2. This rule has no exceptions in main clauses and is the single most important word-order rule in German.
